Alright… let’s address the elephant in the room and talk about what New Year’s Eve might look like. Many of us are anticipating being under restrictions from our provincial and federal governments. I’m here to tell you that this isn’t the end of the world! There are a lot of things you can do within your safe circle of people to celebrate the end of a tough year and start 2021 with some positivity and a fresh perspective.
First, let’s focus on some positives to spending New Years Eve at home:
~Casual Dress Code: leggings, sweat pants, oversized comfy sweaters, no bra. Need I say more?!
~No Need for a Safe Ride Home: you don’t have to worry about hailing down a cab or planning a safe ride home because… you guessed it, you are already there!
~Save $$$: from your wardrobe to dinner to drinks, you can save some serious dough by staying home.
So, let’s get down to the nitty gritty and go through some great options for how to have a fun New Year’s Eve at home.
1. Zoom Party
This is a great way to connect multiple households to ring in 2021. You can sign up for a free account on the Zoom website. While free accounts are limited to 40-minute calls for 3 or more users, this platform has been known to wave that restriction on certain special occasions. Fingers crossed!
2. Board Games
If you are like me, you love board games! There is nothing better than engaging in some family friendly competition. Heads Up! has quickly risen to a #1 choice for many households and is a great way to get people moving.
Here are some of my other favorites:
Cards Against Humanity
What Do You Meme?
Speak Out
5 Second Rule
Scattergories
3. Movie Night

Who doesn’t like a good movie night?! There is no shortage of movie platforms to choose from. Netflix, Crave, and Amazon Prime have a ton of movies to complete your New Year’s Eve at home. Get yourself some tasty snacks and snuggle up!
4. Cook Dinner Together
Whether it’s just you and your significant other or perhaps you have some kiddos running around. Get everyone involved in making a fun NYE dinner. A great dinner idea if you have kids is making your own pizza. You can pre-make your dough and get all the fixings ready for everyone to build their own pizza.
5. Baking Extravaganza

New Year’s resolutions don’t start until January 1st right?! Why not put on your pastry chef hat and get busy baking some tasty treats!
Check out this irresistible cast-iron chocolate chip banana bread, classic peanut butter cookies, and fudge nut brownies. YUMMY!
6. Karaoke
OK! Everyone loves karaoke, even if it’s just to watch others give the performance of their lives. There are lots of options available for Xbox, Wii, and PlayStation to get the entire family involved.
For those of you who don’t have a gaming system, kick it old school and just sing along with music playing or see if ToysRUs has something in stock for curbside pick-up.
7. Staycation

Supporting local is needed now more than ever. Consider checking into a local hotel and enjoy a staycation. Bring some tasty snacks, some bubbly and vino, kick back and relax while you ring in 2021!
8. Scavenger Hunt
This one involves a little planning, but it’s so worth it! This is perfect for families to get the kids active and thinking. Check out some great tips from Scavenger Hunt Fun!
Whatever you decide to do this year, please stop and take a moment to be grateful for something… anything. Health, happiness, 2020 coming to an end and a new year beginning. Try to find some gratitude and joy as we start a new year!
Awesome ideas, thank you!
